It was not a good day last Tuesday for the Culver City High School winter sports teams. Four teams were ready to taste victory, but unfortunately only one team was able to step into the winner’s circle.

The baseball team lost to Santa Monica 6-5, the girls’ softball team lost to Santa Monica 15-3, Saugus High School beat the girl’s lacrosse team 18-17 but the last Culver City team standing last Tuesday pulled out a victory. The boys’ volleyball team beat Ramona 3-0. The lacrosse and the volleyball games were CIF playoff games and if you lose you go home. So, the lacrosse team has to wait until next year. The volleyball team moves to the second round on Thursday, April 30, on the road at 6 p.m. against El Modena.

All four games were played at Culver City, but the volleyball victory was special. It was the first home game for the Centaurs this year because the Culver City high School gym has been under construction since December because of the heavy rains in November flooded the Del Goodyear gymnasium. They had played all of their 25 games on the road. They currently have a remarkable record of 19-7 considering the circumstances.

On Thursday the track and field teams will take center stage in the Ocean League finals for varsity and frosh/sophomore girls’ and boys’ teams. The track and field meet will take place at CCHS, and the starting time will be 4 p.m.

The girl’s lacrosse finished their season 10-8 overall and 5-1 in league play. The girls’ softball team is 6-13 overall and 3-2 in league play. Their next game is Friday against Santa Monica on the road at 3:15 p.m. The baseball team is now 11-15-1 overall and 6-1 in league play. Their next game is Friday against Santa Monica at Santa Monica, and the game time is set for 6 p.m.
