Boys’ basketball travels to North Torrance on Friday

The Culver City boys’ basketball team, fresh off a thrilling 69-63 win over Torrance last Monday, will play their final pre-season game on Friday when they travel North Torrance for a 7:30 p.m. game.  The Centaurs are 8-6 and hope their successful pre-season will continue when the Ocean League starts on January 13.

The Centaurs use a fast pace offense and pressing defense to keep their opponents on their heels. Against Torrance Isaiah Benson led Culver City with 15 points.  Multi-sports star Kyle Johnson  had 14 points, Isaiah Njoku scored eight and Myles Elrington also had eight.

“I thought we played well,” said Benson after the victory over Torrance. “We still need to cut down on our turnovers and rebound better as a team but this was a good win that up lifted our team morale. The coach prepares us very well and that gives us a good shot at placing high in the Ocean league.”

Ocean league play starts on Wednesday January 13, at home against defending league champion Lawndale at 7:30 p.m. They continue league play when they travel to El Segundo on Friday January 15.  The Centaurs are coached by Adam Eskridge.

The lady Centaurs are currently 5-5 and their first Ocean league game is set for Wednesday January 13.  The girls are coached Julian Anderson.
