Zirgulis throws his hat into the ring Scott Bridges | Thu, Aug 04 2011 02:05 PM

Culver City resident Robert Zirgulis recently announced his intention campaigning for a seat on the Culver City Unified District School Board. He has scheduled a barbecue/yard sale joint fundraiser with Rescue Education California – proponents for Proposition 1481 Tax on California Oil Revenues to Education Initiative Statute.

“California is the only major oil-producing state that has no tax on oil extracted. Meanwhile, Alaska’s oil-extraction tax is 25%. It’s only fair that the oil companies pay the 15% tax called for in this initiative to fund our schools,” Zirgulis said. “Three billion dollars could be collected for our schools. The initiative prohibits oil companies from passing tax on to consumers by raising gasoline taxes,” he asserted.

“People will have a choice to either give to my campaign or Rescue Education

California,” Zirgulis said, adding “Either way, they’ll get a chance to have a great burger or hot dog and maybe find a bargain at my yard sale.”

The fundraiser will be held at 4241 Baldwin Ave., Culver City from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 13. For more information, call (310) 486-7408.
