Expo construction work impacts CC

Expo Light Rail construction continues in Culver City. City of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) crews will continue the relocation of utility lines currently under Venice Boulevard in the City of Los Angeles.

This work is taking place near the intersection of Venice Boulevard and Robertson Boulevard.

The Expo contractor (Balfour Beatty Joint Venture) and LADWP crews will continue working during the normal business hours but will also be working during extended Sunday work hours.

The construction will being at noon on Sundays, Dec. 9 and 16 as follows:

o   Sunday through Thursday, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. except as noted below.

o   Fridays (Occasional as needed), 12 a.m. to 8 a.m.

o   Sundays, Dec. 9 and 16, 2012, Noon to 5 a.m.

Traffic will be impacted on Venice Boulevard between Durango Avenue and Ivy Street.  Specific traffic restrictions that will be in place include:

o   Westbound traffic on Venice Boulevard will be reduced to one lane between Curtis Avenue and Culver Boulevard.

o   Eastbound traffic on Venice Boulevard will be reduced to two lanes between Curtis Avenue and Robertson Boulevard.

o   On northbound Robertson Boulevard, left turns will be prohibited onto Venice Boulevard.

o   On southbound Robertson Boulevard, right turns will be prohibited onto Venice Boulevard.

o   On eastbound Venice Boulevard, left turns will be prohibited onto Robertson Boulevard.

o   Pedestrian access will be maintained on the south side of Venice Boulevard.

o   Pedestrian traffic on the north side of Venice Boulevard will be re-directed to the south side of Venice Boulevard between Robertson Boulevard and Culver Boulevard.

Electronic message boards and directional signage will be used to safely direct drivers and pedestrians around the construction zones.  Local access to all businesses will be maintained.

In mid to late January 2013, Expo will begin constructing the bridging structure over Venice and Robertson Boulevards.

This work will include significant temporary changes to the lane alignments on Venice and Robertson Boulevards, including reducing Venice Boulevard to 2 through lanes in both the eastbound and westbound directions. Southbound Robertson Boulevard will be reduced to one through lane and left-turn lanes at Venice Boulevard.

In addition, on 10 separate nights, Venice and Robertson Boulevards will be closed during the bridge construction period. Separate notices and electronic message boards will be used to advise the public when the closures will occur.

The first notice will be distributed the first week of January 2013.  These notices will provide additional information about the work and the traffic impacts
