We recently visited Culver City Cuisine, the rent-a-kitchen, one-stop location for curbside pickup of a whole range of eateries, for the first time in months and were able to sample a whole range of the restaurants under their roof. This week, we continue that culinary journey.
All is as it was; you miss out when it comes to a warm interior, helpful staff and that sort of thing. But every yin has its yang, and in this case it comes down to the fact that a multitude of incredible eateries are all under one roof. You can walk in, wander up to the easy-peasy monitor, and order a bunch of different meals all at the same time. If you want Mexican food, your partner wants salad, and your child wants a burger–no problem! A world of dining is at your fingertips.
There’s really nothing we can tell you about the exterior and interior decor, or the service. The exterior is really a window in an alley – you show up after ordering online, give your name/order number and collect your food. That’s the same for all of the businesses utilizing Culver City Cuisine. There’s one person taking your name and handing out your food, and that person was friendly enough. Job done!
In previous years, we’ve tried Cinnamom Bakery at Culver City Cuisine; imagine our surprise when we learned that the kitchen is home to not one but two decadent cinnamon roll outlets, th3 second being Sweet Dough Cinna Rolls.
“We specialize in the world’s most decadent Gourmet Cinnamon Rolls with over 100 different flavors and varieties including vegan options,” they say online.
They also point out that they’ve been on TV a number of times, appearing on CBS This is LA, KTLA Burrous’ Bites segment, Thrillist, Fork Yeah, Veg News and Season 10 of ABC’s Shark Tank. To be fair, the attention is warranted.
We went for the Salted Chocolate Pecan Cinna-Roll: “Chocolate lovers RAVE about our Salted Chocolate Pecan Roll. We take our Original Sweet Dough Cinna Roll and top it with our Salted Pecan Praline crumble and Ghirardelli Milk Chocolate Chips. We’ve been told it tastes like a Chocolate chip cookie had a love child with a Cinnamon Roll.”
It’s a gooey, naughty-but-nice, heavenly sweet treat. It’s the sort of thing you dream about when you’re considering ideal desserts. The chocolate chips. Pecan praline crumble and classic frosting all melt into each other, which in turn sits atop the roll (best warmed). The whole thing is frankly unbelievable.
Indulge sparingly. But sometimes, you’ve just got to treat yourself.
Sweet Dough Cinna Rolls is located at 5660 Selmaraine Dr., Culver City. Visit culvercitycuisine.com.
