Culver City residents prepare for freeway closures

Culver City commuters will have plenty of other freeway closures to deal with in the coming weeks, in addition to “Carmageddon II”.

“Carmageddon II” is a complete closure of the San Diego (405) Freeway for 53 hours starting Friday night, according to Caltrans.
Construction projects on the Golden State (5) Freeway across the San Fernando Valley and in Newhall Pass, on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway from Los Angeles to Baldwin Park, and on an interchange near the L.A. Zoo will force major ramp or freeway closures in the overnight hours all next week.
Caltrans officials warned the closures could begin with partial lane blockages as early as 8 p.m., and full closures by 10 p.m. Numerous access ramps in those areas will also be closed.
The northern ends of two freeways—the Hollywood (170) and Foothill (210) freeways—will be closed where they merge into Interstate 5 in the overnight hours all next week. Local detours will be posted.
Interstate 5 will remain open across the valley, but at times with just one lane in each direction.

Several extensive widening and reconstruction projects are underway on the 5 from Glendale all the way north to Valencia, and major new interchanges are being built at the 170 and Antelope Valley (14) freeways.
Near the L.A. Zoo, ramps from both directions of the 5 to eastbound Ventura (134) Freeway will be closed overnights starting Tuesday and lasting all week. Numerous other surface street ramps near there will also be closed.
On the 10 Freeway, full freeway closures will be in effect from Eastern Avenue in Monterey Park all the way to the San Gabriel (605) Freeway from about midnight to about 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday mornings.
