Culver City’s all-star team, the CC Sharks coached by Greg Stone Jr. and Allan Lopez, had a great Memorial Day weekend in San Diego winning the Top Gun Tournament by out-scoring their opponents 18-1 in six games.

They placed first in their pool racking up 37 of a possible 40 points during their four-pool play games and won their semi-final game 2-0 against a tough Corona team and then defeated a Riverside GU10 Extra team 5-0 in the finals.

Seven of the nine players on the team scored in the tournament led by Ella Beer’s seven goals. Rahel Stone anchored the defense at her stopper position and helped goalie Nia Terry tally five shutout games out of six.

This is a continuation of their hot streak this year.  In February, the team won the Locomotion Tournament in Riverside by not allowing a single goal against them in six games.  The team followed up that performance by winning the first Annual Hauptman and Freeman Classic tournament in nearby South L.A., again not allowing an opponent to score in four more games.

Next for the team came Culver City’s own tournament, the Sony Pictures Classic.  Although their streak of not allowing any goals scored against them ended, they won the hometown tournament.  Helping to control the middle of the field is halfback Savannah Trujillo, also one of the team’s leading scorers.  Forwards Izzy Sullivan, Zoe Williams and Ella consistently put pressure on the other team’s defense and Rahel, Dyana Gales, Andrea Ortiz and Rylei Feeley prevent other team’s forwards from getting good shots on their goalie, Nia.

During this streak, the team owes thanks to Grace Weil for helping win the Hauptman and Freeman Classic and Natalia Contreras for the Top Gun win, filling in when team members weren’t available.
