New Year brings new expectations for CC teams

The Culver City High School teams hope the New Year will bring new championships to the school during the winter sports period. The two teams that have the best chance to win championships within the next few months are girls’ basketball and girl’ soccer and three other teams, boys basketball, boys soccer and girls water polo are looking to make the playoffs.

The winter sports session continues this week when the 4-4 girls soccer team battles Lynwood on Friday at 5 p.m. The girls’ soccer team opens Ocean league play next week when they travel to El Segundo on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. game and on Friday, Jan. 13, they host Lawndale at 3 p.m.

The 7-5 Centaur boys’ soccer team will play El Segundo at home next Wednesday at 6 p.m. and travel to Lawndale next Friday, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m.

The defending Ocean league champion girls’ basketball team will host El Segundo next Wednesday at 6 p.m. and the 9-4 Centaurs travel to Lawndale on Friday, January 13 for a 6 p.m. game.

The 4-12 boys basketball team opens Ocean league play next Wednesday with a home game against El Segundo at 7:30 p.m. and they travel to Lawndale for a 7:30 p.m. game on Friday, Jan. 13.

Girls’ water polo will battle El Segundo next Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 3 p.m. at Vets Park, located on the corner of Culver Blvd. and Overland Ave.
