Lady Centaur soccer off to best start By Mike Cohen | Thu, Jan 06 2011 12:05 PM

The Culver City High School girls soccer team is off to its best start in the five years that coach Scott Mair has mentored the squad.

The Lady Centaurs recently lost 3-2 to Brentwood in the championship game of the Crossroads Tournament.  To reach the title game, Culver City defeated Crossroads, Marlborough and defending CIF champion, Malibu.

"We're really playing well and our team is fun to watch," said Mair.

Captains are Lili Valverde and Jennifer Mair.  Returning first-team all-league players are Lydia Chodosh and Alex Croft.

The back four on defense are solid this year, according to Mair, and include freshman Cheyanne Thomas, Kenia Bonilla (so.), Shandell Martinez (jr.) and Natalie Estrada (so.).

“Freshman Ellie Benitez, Hayley Pina and Miya Torimura have also played well,” noted Mair.

Assistant coach is Jennifer Kochevar.
