Junior swimmer breaks Culver High record

Junior Chris Abdelmalak broke the Culver City High School record in the 100-meter breaststroke set last year by Michael Dozal (59.14) with a time of 59.00 in the preliminaries of the Division II Championships at Riverside Community College. He placed ninth in the 100 breast and 200 individual medley finals.

The other Centaur swimmer to qualify for the individual events, sophomore Kyle Rovira, swam the 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley and finished out of contention.

Senior Cristobal Galván, junior Sterling Salvaterra, senior Pedro Dos Santos, and Abdelmalak missed the consolation finals as first alternate in the 400 freestyle relay. The 200 freestyle relay with Galván, Dos Santos, senior Dario Fantella, and Abdelmalak took 24th place. The 200 individual medley relay with senior Kendrick Langston Rovira, Salvaterra, and Fantella finished in 28th place.

Senior Lindsey Grossman, senior Karen Dueñas, junior Ruth Basurto and junior Samira Viliani swam the 200 freestyle relay, and Basurto, junior Olivia Valdez, Dueñas, and Grossman competed in the 200 individual medley but did not advance.
