Hernandez sisters expected to lead middle school teams

Will the Hernandez sisters demonstrate their dominance in Culver City Middle School sports in the same manner as the Williams sisters have put a stranglehold on Wimbledon?

Seventh grader Krista Hernandez was named Most Valuable Player on both the varsity volleyball and softball teams while earning a spot on the Principal’s honor roll for her grades. She also starred for both squads as a sixth grader.

Younger sister Alyssa enters Culver City Middle School next fall. She is working out with the middle school varsity volleyball team this summer and is the starting shortstop for the Culver City Girl’s Fastpitch 12-and-under all-star team.

Setter Hernandez led the middle school volleyball team to the league championship with a sweep against Paul Revere Middle School played at the Centaur gym. The squad will try to improve on its third place finish last fall at the Los Caballeros Tournament in Fountain Valley this year.

Returning ace Hernandez led the Culver City Middle School softball team with a perfect record as pitcher and hitter during the first half of the season. With strong pitching performances and a powerful bat, the seventh grader has received recruitment offers to play for travel softball teams.

Alyssa Hernandez will immediately contribute to the volleyball and softball squads, according to her coaches.

“Alyssa and Krista have learned a lot from their coaches since their days in kindergarten. They love to participate,” said dad Tino Hernandez.
