Girls’ volleyball hits the road for final league games

The Culver City girls’ volleyball team faces the same dilemma as the football team.  In order for them to make the CIF playoffs, Culver City needs to win their three remaining regular season games and El Segundo needs to lose one game.  At press time, Culver City and El Segundo were tied for second place in the Ocean League with a record of 5-2.  Culver City’s overall record is 14-10-1.

The Centaurs played first-place Santa Monica yesterday (Wednesday) and then travel to Hawthorne on Friday at 3:15 p.m. and Beverly Hills next Tuesday for a 3:15 p.m. match.

Last Thursday, Culver City beat El Segundo in a four-game match. In that game junior co-captain Krista Hernandez had 21 digs, Lena Johnson had 13 kills, co-captain, Adili Rikonja had seven kills, and middle blocker McKenna Stevens had 14 blocks.

Last Saturday, Culver City took second place in the Chadwick Tournament. They beat Cerritos, Bellflower and Vista Del Mar on their way to the final game against Chadwick.  Krista finished the tournament with 56 digs and 15 aces while her sister, Alyssa Hernandez had 23 digs.
