The Culver Volleyball Club performed admirably in the Summer Soiree girls volleyball tournament in Anaheim, an end-of-season competition involving 400 teams.
Led by the outstanding setting of Culver City Middle School standouts Krista Hernandez and Jessica Stewart, the Culver City 12-year-olds took third place in their 32-team division. Mentored by Culver City Middle School teacher Marty Siegal, the squad went undefeated in pool play before beating Hawaii, 25-19 and 25-21 in the playoffs. Brittany Pedrosa played well as middle blocker and Sarah Neiman, Rachel Lang and Yureka Boyd were solid in the victory.
Culver City then lost 25-15 and 25-16 to Signal Hill to fall into third place.
Former Centaur volleyball player and Culver City Middle School Counselor Eric Burns coached the 14-year-olds to a strong fifth-place finish in their division.
Former Culver City High School player Tanner Siegal led his 14-year-old squad to a top-ten finish.
The 15-year-old team took ninth place, coached by Eriko Gambol, former Culver City High School player and now the ninth grade and varsity assistant volleyball coach at Culver City High.
