It’s hard to improve on perfection but the Culver City boys and girls track and field teams are raising the bar every week. They are improving their times and marks while staying away from the injury bug.
Last week all four teams, boys and girls frosh-soph, and boys and girls varsity teams beat some very good El Segundo teams in a dual meet on Thursday and Saturday the Centaurs competed in the always competitive 22nd Annual Mira Cost Mustang Relays. “Our kids did a great job at El Segundo and they are doing a good job today in the Mustang Relays,” said distance coach Tom Fritizus last Saturday at Mira Costa.
“As a team we are really coming along,” said head coach Jahmal Wright. “Our relays are improving and our individual performances are getting better. We would like to start running faster relay times but right now we are right where we want to be.”
Last Saturday the Centaurs dominated the frosh-soph running events at the Mustang Relays. Leading the way was Angel Morris and Guess Scott in the girls hurdles. In the field events Jayden Porter and Nathan Stennet did well in the boys’ discus and Stennet placed high in the shot put.
On the varsity level Nia Garcia took first place in the girls’ 110 meter hurdles, Cahlil Hooper placed second in the 100 meters is a fast time of 10.94 and Cameryn Newman placed second in the shot put.
Culver City’s next home meet is Thursday, April 14 against Hawthorne at 3 p.m.
