Culver City gymnasts medal in championships

Three Culver City gymnasts won individual and team medals in championships.

Arun Chhetri won the gold medal on floor exercise, second on pommel horse and third on vault and all-around at the Regional Championships held in Reno.  Chhetri took third on pommel horse and parallel bars at his home Broadway Gymnastics School Peter Vidmar Invitational in Culver City.

Bryanna Keith captured the gold medal on vault at the California Classics in Aliso Viejo.

Abigail DeShazo contributed to the Level 8 Bronze Team Championship placing second on beam and fourth all-around.

The local athletes also collected bronze at the Chris Waller’s Heart of a Champion Invite and the San Diego Classic Nastia Qualifier.

Student designs sports logo

El Rincon Elementary School student Andre Saldanna was named a national finalist in a t-shirt art design contest for TGA, an after-school program that teaches golf and tennis at elementary and middle schools, childcare centers and community centers.

Youth volleyball skills at Culver gyms

Volleyball clinics for youth in grades 4-12 are held July 22-25 (4:00-7:00 p.m.), July 29-August 1 (4:00-7:00 p.m.), and August 5-8 (8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.) at Culver City Middle School and Culver City High School gyms.

The first week offers the fundamentals of passing, serving, setting and hitting for beginning and intermediate players in grades 4 – 9, wanting to start club or competitive school teams.

The second week covers advanced fundamentals for players in grades 6-9.

Middle school & high school players participate in the third session (grades 7-12), covering advanced transition skills in preparation for high school competition.

Sessions 1 and 2 are $150.  Third week is $165.

MEDALISTS: Elizabeth Addas (13) and her ice dance partner Jonathan Schultz (14) earned a bronze medal in the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Omaha Nebraska.  Addas and Schultz, who train at the Culver Ice Arena, won the Pacific Coast Sectional Championships last November in Provo, Utah.
