A winner of eight consecutive games, the Culver City High baseball team swept Morningside 16-5 and 24-3 last week to set up a duel this week with Santa Monica to determine the Ocean League title.
The Centaurs (17-8 overall, 7-1 Ocean League) will host Santa Monica at 3:15 p.m. today after having traveled to Santa Monica on Tuesday, May 11.
The Centaurs scored early and often in the 16-5 win last Tuesday against the Monarchs.
Tyler Mark, who went 4-for-4 with three doubles and two RBIs, led the hitting attack with solid support from Ryan Mulvihill (2-for-4, four RBIs) and Michael Lee (1-for-3, three RBIs).
Winning pitcher Alejandro Andrews threw four innings, allowing one run on four hits. Dylan Soules and Lukas O’Connor relieved.
In the second game, the Centaurs collected 26 hits in the 24-3 rout. Lee was 5-for-6 with three runs scored and five RBIs. Garrett Gemgnani (4-for-6, five RBIs) sprayed the ball all over the field, and drilled a three-run home run in the first inning.
O’Connor went 3-for-6, Tyler Adkison went 2-for-4 and Mulvihill went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Mark pitched five innings, allowing two runs on three hits and recording seven strikeouts for the win. Soules closed the game, allowing one unearned run in two innings of work.
A fundraiser for the baseball program will be held today after the final game of the season against Santa Monica from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Shakey’s Pizza in Culver City, located at 5604 S. Sepulveda Blvd.
