Centaurs defend in rallying win

The Centaur boys basketball team overcame a 50-44 third quarter deficit to defeat Rolling Hills Prep, 65-61, last Monday in the final game of the Redondo Sea Hawk Classic to prepare for the start of league action.

Culver City greets visiting Torrance, Friday, 7:30 p.m. Centaurs open the Ocean League Wednesday at Morningside, followed by the home opener, Jan. 17, with Santa Monica.

The Centaurs played full court denial defense that created turnovers and difficult shots for Rolling Hills in the fourth quarter. Culver City hit several outside shots and added fast break layups to outscore the Huskies, 21-11, to pull away. Culver’s Wes Dixon had 11 rebounds.

Armani Nicolis pulled down eight boards. Aaron Edison had four assists, and Isaac Girley dished off three assists.

Huskies guards Jackie Davis (33) and K.J. Garrett (24) scored 57 of their team’s 61 points in Culver’s four-point win over Rolling Hills Prep.
