Centaur girls’ soccer team has talent, but lacking in experience

The girls’ varsity soccer team is moving into a new phrase this season. For the past few years they have relied on one or two players to carry the load and score most of the points. One of those players was A. J. Jaramillo who was one of the best players in the history of Culver City girls’ soccer. Now that she has graduated the team is counting on youth and talent.

The Centaurs currently have only four seniors out of the 20 players on the roster and the coaches are hoping the young players will develop quickly because time waits for no one. “We have a lot of work to do,” said first year head coach Peter Bartlett after the Centaurs tied Peninsula 1-1 last Monday at Culver City.

The Centaurs are currently 0-2-1. They played two more games this week on Wednesday and Thursday. Their game on Thursday is on the road against West Torrance at 3 p.m. Their next home game is Monday, Dec. 18 at 5 p.m.  against Baldwin Park.  Due to possible schedule changes please contact Culver City high school to make sure the game is being played on that day and at that time.

Although the Centaurs are off to a slow start coach Bartlett is excited about the season. “The potential is there. We have a lot of players with outstanding ability but the biggest thing is how quickly we start to gel.”

Bartlett continued to say, “We differently have talent. We just have to put it all together. We are going to make some mistakes along the way. We need to get to know each other a little better. It’s going to take more practices and games to be able to play at a higher level. The big picture is to get ready for the Ocean league.”
