The Culver City baseball team is finding out that the old saying in baseball that good pitching will stop good hitting is true. After scoring 61 runs in the first nine games the Centaurs have been limited to four runs in the last three games. The Centaurs are now 6-6.
The good news is Culver city is also holding their opponents to single digit runs but the bad news is they are losing these close games. “When you play all of these good Division I teams in the preseason sometimes it’s hard to get a win,’ said head coach Rick Prieto last Monday. “Playing really good teams is important because once you get into the playoffs this is the kind of pitching we will face.”
Prieto continued to say, “I am excited that our pitching and defense is doing a good job of holding these really good teams to two and three runs per game but our three, four and five hitters have to get the job done and our one and two hitters have to get on base. When they get on base we have to execute.”
When the Centaurs return from their Easter break they will play a home game against St. Monica at 3 p.m. on April 5, travel to Chatsworth on Saturday April 9 to battle a dominant Los Angeles city team and return home to face Lawndale in their Ocean league opener at 3 p.m. on April 12.
