El Rincon Elementary School recently celebrated “Random Acts of Kindness Week” – a week during which students were encouraged to think about the special ways they could practice kindness towards others, themselves and the community. For each act of kindness, they turned in a leaf to fill in the Kindness Tree in the school auditorium.
In addition to morning assemblies focused on Kindness, for the first time, students were invited to create Valenkind Greetings for the elderly in Culver City. The students at El Rincon Elementary School made almost 500 Valenkind Greetings – so many that the school had to expand its efforts to share the kindness with additional recipients. On Valentine’s Day, students gathered at Meridian of Culver Village and Maycrest Manor to deliver Valenkind Greetings. Additional greetings were delivered to UCLA Mattel’s Children’s Hospital.
The week’s events were co-sponsored by the PTA and Booster Club; however, there have been several donations to help make this event a success. The school is still accepting donations to support Random Acts of Kindness Week. Anyone interested in contributing can mail a check (payable to El Rincon Booster Club) to El Rincon Elementary School, ATTN: RAK Week, 11177 Overland Ave. in Culver City.
Kids at Hope founder to speak at special event
Kids at Hope inspires, empowers, and transforms families, schools, youth-serving organizations and entire communities to create an environment where all children experience success – NO EXCEPTIONS!
CCUSD and its parents organizations invite you to a special event featuring Rick Miller, founder, president and chief treasure hunter for Kids at Hope, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on April 7 at Robert Frost Auditorium at 4401 Elenda Street in Culver City.
Kids at Hope is an evidence-based, strategic-cultural model, which reverses the “youth at risk” paradigm by establishing a holistic methodology that engages entire schools. Central to the model is the Kids at Hope Pledge:
I am a Kid at Hope?I am talented, smart and capable of success?I have dreams for the future and I will climb to reach those goals and dreams every day.?All children are capable of success.?No exceptions!
This event is free, and childcare, crafts and pizza for children will be provided.

CCHS Booster Club Holds Casino Night on March 7
Culver City High School Booster Club its 8th Annual Casino Night from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, at Veterans Memorial Auditorium located at 4117 Overland Ave.
The CCHS Booster Club provides vital funds to all athletic teams and all school clubs, including uniforms, buses, training, equipment and more! Half of each ticket sold goes back to the team accounts. Tickets are $35 – in limited quantity! They are available from any student athlete or at http://cchsboosterclub.com/ or at the door.
The event will include blackjack, craps, roulette, live music with a DJ, foods from local Culver City restaurants, and live and silent auctions. Casino Night is the Booster Club’s biggest and most successful fundraising event, bringing in much-needed support for student athletes. Businesses and restaurants that donate will be recognized at the event and on promotional materials. School athletics and clubs change the lives of our students and immeasurably improve our community.

CCEF announces 2015 Shining Star, Volunteers of the Year Award winners
On May 2, at Culver City Education Foundation’s Tribute to the Stars event at Sony Pictures Studios, CCEF will be honoring the following Volunteers from our CCUSD schools.
The honorees include: Jolene Niwa, El Marino; Runny Saavedra-Leslie, El Rincon; Nancy Shin, Farragut; Scott Keckenand Nanora Thompson, La Ballona; Ashoo Jain, Linwood Howe; Dina Wahlert, Culver City Middle School; Larry Zeidman, Culver City High School; Angela Dyborn, Culver Park High School; and Anne Santo, Culver City Adult School.
CCEF also announced Lise Friedman as the Paula and Tom Wilson Shining Star Award winner for 2015. A former CCEF Board Member and a past president, Lise will be honored this year. Congratulations Lise, it is an honor that is well-deserved!
