What if KCRW produced the concert series instead of Gary Mandell?

1. Culver City would get what it needs: More diverse music and younger crowds who spend money. Sign them up!

2. Culver City would become "Santa Monica Lite," and alienate their current audiences while possibly gaining a new one. It's still up to the merchants to gain audience interest in spending money downtown.

3. If KCRW produces the concert series, it's simply an unknown. With Gary Mandell, it's known: It's hugely popular.

The real question is why would we want anyone else producing the concert series? If it's not broken, why fix it? Gary has done an absolutley superb job assembling a variety of high quality acts, with a shrinking budget and within the confines of our City Hall courtyard. He generously donates part of his fee as a sponser and he's based right here in Culver City. Let Culver City be Culver City. Keep it local!

The existing concert series led by Gary Mandell is already unique and I hope the City of Culver city is interested in continuing to produce an event that is for its entire population child to senior citizen. Culver City's series is safe, inclusive and a breath of community.

What I think is so unique about Culver City's summer Festival is that the entire communitiy is involved. There are toddlers to seniors dancing their hearts out. My niece and I always buy our supper from local eateries and we notice that several others do too. Mezza gave out discount coupons to the crowd which we took advantage of. Perhaps this could be suggested to other eateries who want concert business.

I've attended the concerts since their inception and watch them grow to SRO capacity under Gary Mandell. I never thought the driving force was to gain more business for local merchants but if what they gain now is not enough, I suggest they do a better job of promotion at the concerts. A wholesale change in producer, venue, time and day as has been suggested appears to be change for the sake of change and can only destroy a highly successful program in our city, for our city.
