Culver City school leaders recently received a shout out from the president of one of the nation’s most powerful teachers unions for working in a collaborative fashion that both labor and management leaders say has reaped substantial rewards.

At Tuesday’s night’s Culver City Unified School District Board of Education (CCUSD) meeting hosted at City of Culver City City Hall, Culver City Education Foundation (CCEF) Executive Director Leslie Adler presented a check to the school board for $125,500—a very generous grant from the Fineshriber Family Foundation to CCEF. The talented Culver City High School Students Saxophone Quartet first serenaded attendees as they walked into the city council chambers and then performed a short piece at the end the presentation.

Out-sized thank-you cards signed by middle and high school student beneficiaries of the Fineshriber Family Foundation’s generosity were presented by Dr. Tony Spano and Paul Witt after the check presentation and Quartet performance.

The total grant of $125,500 was composed of three renewal grants and the second phase of new musical instruments for the Culver City Middle and High School bands. The first phase for musical instruments was granted to CCEF in the Fall of 2012 by the Fineshriber Family Foundation to transform and develop the Instrumental Music programs at the Culver City Middle and High School. To date, the Fineshriber Family Foundation has given $134,000 enabling the purchase of more than 170 new instruments.

The three renewal grants were for ongoing support of the Symphonic Jazz Orchestra in all five elementary schools, GrowingGreat Nutrition and garden education at all five elementary schools, and Front & Center Theatre Collaborative, the K-12 collaborative formed six years ago by CCEF to sustain and increase theatre education in the Culver City Unified School District.

The Fineshriber Family Foundation’s continuing generous support of our students in CCUSD is remarkable and enormously appreciated.
