Culver City’s Washington West Business District (WWBD), a unique collection of artisan restaurants, creative businesses, specialty retail and services, will be hosting its first annual Taste of Washington West from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct.17, 2015. The “walk the block” event will feature a variety of complimentary tastings and drink specials from ten area restaurants hailed by L.A. Eater as “the most compelling restaurant row in this part of town.”
The event will include an art show showcasing new and distinguished
artists as well as live entertainment, including the El Marino Language
School Rainbow Taiko drummers, music by Acoustic Shadow and Danny Sandock and a chef talk with Hatchet Hall’s Brian Dunsmoor. For those looking to focus on fitness and food, Kinesis will be offering complimentary classes every 15-minutes, including Pilates reformer, yoga and TRX beginning at 4:15 p.m. The event will begin with a “kid’s happy hour” at 3:00 PM with face painting and balloon creations at A Magic Forest, a Halloween-themed photo booth at Art Printer and fishing for yo-yo’s at Sunny Blue.
Over the last several months, the district has welcomed four new
restaurants to the area including Eric Ong’s Humble Potato, serving
comfort food with a twist of Japanese flavor, Sunny Blue, the first and
only omusubi store in Southern California, featuring fresh daily Omusubi (also called Onigiri), Tangaroa Fish Market, featuring a raw market and daily menu and Brian Dunsmoor’s new concept Hatchet Hall, at the old Waterloo and City location bringing southern cooking with a sustainable flair. These new additions will continue to bring innovative cuisine to an already vibrant slate of businesses in the area. Gravlax, known for their Turkish and Scandinavian-inspired menu, was recently named one of the hottest brunch spots by L.A. Eater in February 2015. Los Angeles Times also called the Samosa House, “home of some of the best Indian snacks in Los Angeles” featuring a vegetarian, and mostly vegan selection of “fun” food.
The district also boasts incredible specialty retailers and shops
including ChocoVivo, which has been featured by The Wall Street Journal, L.A. Weekly and Fox News for their stone-ground, bean to bar process and chef and restaurateur Han’s Rockwagner’s Röckwagner Bakery Café known for its trademark baked goods. Capping the row on the west end is Wheel House Cheese & Wine Shop that carries a selection of more than 100 cheeses,
cured meats, craft beers and limited production wines from around the
world as well as sandwiches and gourmet retail items.
The event is generally centered along West Washington Boulevard between Centinela Avenue and Wade Street. Guests are encouraged to bike, walk, or carpool to the event and avoid parking in the adjacent residential areas.
