Vice Mayor O’Leary extends fraternity to Sister City’s new mayor | Thu, Nov 25 2010 12:00 PM

Vice Mayor Mehaul O’Leary recently visited Culver City’s Sister City of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. He was invited to attend the inaugural City Council meeting run by Lethbridge’s newly elected Mayor, Rajko Dodic.

O’Leary brought greetings and good wishes from the Culver City City Council and community. Also in attendance were representatives from two of Lethbridge’s other Sister Cities, Towada City, Japan and Great Falls, Montana.

O’Leary met with Dodic and Lethbridge’s eight new Aldermen (councilmen) and exchanged gifts. O’Leary also met with Harold Pereverseff, president of the Lethbridge Twinning Society (Lethbridge’s official name for Sister City), discussing future visits, such as a student exchange and other activities that are being planned between Lethbridge and Culver City.

O’Leary also extended a “bridge of friendship” from Culver City Sister City Committee President, Barbara Honig, who had just visited the Lethbridge Twinning Society this past summer.

The Culver City Sister City Committee was founded in 1962 to foster international and intercultural friendship and understanding. It currently has Sister Cities in Uruapan, Mexico; Kaizuka, Japan; Iksan City, South Korea and Lethbridge, Canada.
