The not-so-dirty dozen; 12 of studio’s pics awarded with EMA Green Seal | Thu, Oct 21 2010 12:42 PM

The Environmental Media Association recognized 12 Sony/Columbia Pictures films to receive EMA Green Seal awards. The films included Eat, Pray, Love; Salt, The Green Hornet, The Social Network, Grown Ups, Karate Kid, Bad Teacher, Battle: Los Angeles, The Other Guys, Anonymous, How do you Know, and Just Go with It.

The Environmental Media Association along with its partner, Green Seal, created the EMA Green Seal Program to promote sustainable production methods and provide recognition in the entertainment industry for those incorporating such practices. The program includes film and TV productions as well as award shows and galas.

“As a studio, we are honored to receive this recognition from the EMA and Green Seal and congratulate the individuals behind each of these exciting productions who committed to make a difference in the world as they made great movies,” said Gary Martin, president of production administration and studio operations at Sony Pictures Entertainment. “We strive to make environmental sustainability a core component of our business practices across the studio and each of our productions plays a huge role in our success.”

The studio’s emphasis on the pursuit of environmental sustainability has taken on a
new energy in the past two years. Goals announced in the fall of 2008 include a commitment to go “zero waste” on the studio’s main lot and a composting program in partnership with the City of Culver City.

“We understand all the hard work and dedication it requires to promote sound environmental practices within the fast-paced production world, so we are proud to recognize [Sony's] efforts with our EMA Green Seal,” said Debbie Levin, president of the Environmental Media Association.
