Studio Bancs continues “Culture Pop” series

Studio Bancs, Culver City’s freshest creative art space, continues its popular mixed media collaborative art and installation event dubbed Culture Pop, and will take place Oct. 23 at 8 p.m. at Studio Bancs located at 2643 S. Fairfax Ave. in Culver City. The series is curated by Lissa M Kivisto and Studio Bancs and is free to the public with an RSVP.

Once a month Bancs features some of the most visible and sought after artists in Los Angeles as well as artists from all over the world. For Culture Pop III the Bancs team has put together an incredible line up featuring Coli, DonkeeBoy, Anaïs Barajas and Blake Byers.

These artists differ in medium and composition, but are brought together by the mixing of mediums; street art aesthetics and thought provoking imagery. Coli uses layers of hand cut stencils to paint photorealistic images and often focuses on portraits. Typically his paintings are done in a grey scale with color that pop in the background.

Donkeeboy has recently focused more on pop culture – past and present. Using house paint, paint markers, and other mediums, he puts his own unique spin on famous icons; creating works of art, which tend to consist of various double entendre and visual puns.

Alessandra is a self taught painter, musician, and native Los Angeleno born and bred in the streets of Los Angeles. The emotions evoked through the music scene along with the bold, unapologetic attitude of the city are reflected in the vibrant colors and the undisguised sentiment each painting displays. She uses acrylic, oil, spray and enamel paints, but also uses unconventional mediums such as coffee and lipstick. Blake Byers is from Idyllwild, CA currently working in San Diego, which he now calls home. He’s involved with the practice of deconstructed portraits using condensed polystyrene sheeting and latex, oil, aerosol, and acrylic paints.
