Stop right there: There’s a new light in town | Mon, Jan 31 2011 11:59 AM

By Scott Bridges

Culver City recently installed a new traffic signal at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and McLaughlin Avenue in the western end of the city, authorities said.

The stoplight became operational on Tuesday, Jan. 25, a city worker said.

The traffic signal includes a left turn arrow designed to function during periods of heavy congestion. It does not include so-called red-light cameras.

The City’s traffic engineers believe that the traffic signal will help improve traffic flow on Washington Boulevard and in the surrounding area.

I suggest a new traffic light be installed on Overland at the entrance to the Julian Dixon Library. It is extremely difficult to enter or exit their parking lot especially if you want to turn left. It is a four lane street and the cars seem to build up an excessive speed on that stretch of Overland. I think this would be a great safety improvement.
