The Culver City Scholarship Fund has begun its annual campaign for donations. The Fund, a community non-profit organization, provides scholarships to graduating seniors from Culver City High School and Culver Park High School.
In 2015, 142 students received scholarships totaling $144,000. However, according to President Margaret Fujisawa, a number of deserving students, many with financial need, were not awarded scholarships due to lack of funds.
Donors include a wide variety of service clubs, businesses, parent organizations such as PTA, and employee organizations from the school district and the city, as well as individual and memorial scholarships. Donors are able to set their criteria, which may include academic status, financial need, career goals, or Culver City schools attended.
There are two ways to donate to the fund.
An individual, organization, service club or business can create a named scholarship in the amount of at least $500 and then a representative will be able to select their recipient from among the applicants. The donor presents the scholarship at the awards night in June.
In addition, the fund accepts tax-deductible donations of any amount for the Bettylyle Westbrook Spirit Awards, which are used to provide for students in great financial need who did not receive a named scholarship.
For direct donations, checks should be made out to Culver City Community Scholarship Fund and sent to Culver City High School, 4401 Elenda St., Culver City, CA 90230, attention Margaret Fujisawa, College Career Center.
