The Santa Monica Quilt Guild will gather on Saturday, April 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Veterans Home of California-West Los Angeles, to make quilts for veterans on-site.
Veterans Home of California–West Los Angeles is located at 11500 Nimitz Ave. in Los Angeles, just north of Wilshire Boulevard, will host this year’s Quilting Day for Veterans.
The event is being organized through the organized efforts between Director of Veterans Home of California—West Los Angeles Brenda Manke and 25 members of the Santa Monica Quilt Guild.
The Santa Monica Quilt Guild was founded in 1990 and some of the guild’s charter members are still active in the Guild. The Santa Monica Quilt Guild is a member of the Southern California Council of Quilt Guilds. The goals of the Santa Monica Quilt Guild are to further quilting enjoyment and expertise through educational programs and friendships, and to promote philanthropic endeavors through quilting.
The Veterans Home of California—West Los Angeles is a 396-bed long-term care home for Veterans. The levels of care include: assisted living, skilled nursing, an Alzheimer’s/memory care unit and a Transitional Housing Program for homeless Veterans. The Santa Monica Quilt Guild is a non-profit organization, a 501(c)(3) public charity. Membership is open to anyone interested in learning more about the art of quilt making. They welcome quilters of all skill levels. Guild meetings are hosted on a monthly basis, on the first Wednesday evening of the month at the First United Methodist Church, Simkins Hall, located at 1008 11th St. in Santa Monica, at 6:30 p.m.
