Runners and walkers occupy city streets in Screenland 5K

Portions of Culver and Washington boulevards, leading from downtown Culver City, will be reserved for 3,000 guests in the once-in-a-century Screenland 5K on Academy Awards Sunday, Feb. 26.

Runners and walkers follow the yellow brick road, experience two legendary studio back lots, view the 100 points of lore on the Centennial Trail and finish on the red carpet with Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler.

Screenland 5K guests dressed as their favorite screen stars will be eligible to win Swag Bags filled with Disneyland Park-Hopper tickets, The Culver Hotel stay packages, See’s candy boxes and prizes and gift certificates from area merchants.

Packet pickup is on Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Sunday, starting at 7 a.m. at 9300 Culver Blvd. (across from The Culver Hotel).

Opening ceremonies on Sunday will take place on the main stage under the rainbow beginning at 8 a.m. Screenland 5K at 9 a.m., Munchkin Kids Dash at 10 a.m. and awards ceremony held at 10:15 a.m.

The Screenland 5K route will be closed to all vehicular traffic, Sunday, 6 to 11:30 a.m. The Culver City Police Department will open some segments of the course earlier than 11:30 a.m. after trailing participants have passed certain points, or have been relocated to the sidewalk. Some closures in Downtown may last slightly longer while a stage is disassembled and equipment is picked-up.

Areas along the Screenland 5K course will have temporary signs posted to prevent parking prior to the start of the route closure.
