On July 26, eight middle school students and three chaperones from Culver City’s Sister City of Kaizuka, Japan, will arrive here for a ten-day visit as part of a longtime ongoing exchange program between the two cities. During this period, the visitors will partake in a variety of activities, including a visit to Culver City schools, tours of City Hall, the police and fire stations and Sony Studios, a swim at the Municipal Plunge and a hike to the Baldwin Hills Overlook.
All Culver City residents are invited to attend two of the events that will be held during the visit. On Monday July 31, there will be a “meet and greet” gathering from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Dan Patacchia Room at City Hall. Mayor Jeff Cooper and Council members will be in attendance and light snacks will be served. No reservations are necessary.
On Thursday Aug. 3, a farewell potluck dinner will be held at the home of “Mr. Culver City” Mike Cohen, 4378 Jasmine Ave., starting at 7 p.m. Both the Japanese visitors and their host family members will be speaking about their experiences while here.
