Police officers mount a challenge to criminals | Thu, Dec 30 2010 02:07 PM

The Culver City Police Department displays its mounted unit, which exists to patrol city streets and make the community a safer place. The unit is a collateral assignment with officers and reserves from within the department and supervised by Lt. Mike Webb.

The five horses are privately owned and maintained by the officers. The unit was formally started in January of 2009. All the members of the unit attended a certified course designed specifically for law enforcement. The unit typically works special events, shopping centers and the downtown business area for high visibility and crime suppression.
