A 48-year-old woman was struck and killed by a hit-and-run vehicle in the early hours of Wednesday morning in the Ballona Wetlands, police said.
The incident occurred shortly before 2 a.m. at the convergence of Culver and West Jefferson boulevards in Playa del Rey, according to Officer Carl Lurvey of the Los Angeles Police Department's West Traffic Division.
No homes or businesses are in the immediate vicinity, and it was unclear what the woman was doing there. Neither was it clear if drugs or alcohol were factors in the incident.
Authorities today are looking for the driver of the involved vehicle. It was not immediately known if traffic investigators were able to gather any evidence from the suspect’s vehicle at the scene.
The woman’s name was withheld pending notification of her family, according to the coroner’s office.
