MGM, Louis B. Mayer story in presentation by Alicia Mayer

Part of the lore of Culver City’s vast history is its link to the Hollywood movie industry. Louis B. Mayer is a name movie and history fans will recognize, as he once headed tMetro-Goldwyn-Mayer.

MGM was the studio with “more stars than there are in heaven,” and its stable of “heavenly” performers included Greta Garbo, Clark Gable, Joan Crawford and Jean Harlow.

MGM’s magical Hollywood past will make a stop in Culver City this weekend.

Alicia Mayer, the great-grand niece of the Hollywood mogul, will share the exciting world of her family’s link to the silver screen with a presentation at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6 at Veterans Park auditorium, Rotunda Room, 4117 Overland Ave., Culver City.

This special event is presented in conjunction with Culver City’s Centennial Celebration.

Alicia Mayer is the family historian, and has taken the responsibility of overseeing the Louis B. Mayer legacy. She is the custodian of hundreds of photos and documents relating to the Mayer and Cummings families and MGM.

Attendees of this presentation will view photos and memorabilia never seen before by the public. Mayer will give insights and behind-the-scenes coverage of MGM, and the first families of Hollywood and Culver City.

In addition, 10 prints of one of the rarest photos in the Mayer collection will be given away.
