Library Centennial renovation celebration project begins

CCN

The long-awaited Library Centennial Renovation Celebration Project is about to commence.  As a result, the Culver City Julian Dixon Library will be closed from Monday, April 21, for one year, for a much-needed update.

Part of the project will include additional electrical outlets, new lighting, new paint, new carpeting and new furniture throughout the library.  A new circulation and information desk with new self-check machines should enable the staff to better serve the needs of the patrons.

During the closure, a temporary facility will be available for limited services at the site of the Mayme Clayton Library  (across the street from Vet’s Auditorium) at 4130 Overland Ave. in Culver City.  Services provided will include holds placement, holds pick up and a small browsing collection, including children’s books.  Public computer use and Internet service will not be available.

Access to the Culver City Julian Dixon Library and parking lot will also not be available.  Patrons will need to make book donations and return library books at the temporary site.  The closest full-service county libraries are the Lloyd Taber-Marina del Rey Library at 4533 Admiralty Way in Marina del Rey and the View Park Library at 3854 West 54th St. in Los Angeles.  The L.A. city libraries that are most convenient are the Mar Vista library at 12006 Venice Blvd., the Palms/Rancho Park branch at 2920 Overland Ave. and the Playa Vista library at 6400 Playa Vista Drive.

Students who have used the library as an after school homework center, may want to explore the possibilities at their individual school sites and at the Culver City Teen Center, located at 4153 Overland Ave.

While this is less convenient for loyal library users, there is hope that it will be well worth the effort and everyone will all enjoy the improvements for years to come. Everyone’s support and patience is appreciated. More will be posted during the library closure as things progress.

Express Library Hours are for the temporary library at the Mayme Clayton site are as follows:

Beginning on Tuesday, April 22, access will be available Tuesday-Friday from 2 to 6 p.m.; Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The library will be closed Sunday and Monday.
