KIDS IN TRAINING FOR SCREENLAND 5K

Youngsters perform stretching and balancing exercises with Culver City High School cross country teammates (top, from left) Mason Acevedo, Faheem Chunara and Mathew Wong, while adults run, jog and walk around the Centaur track during free training session for the Culver City Centennial Screenland 5k.

Almost 50 runners and walkers meet at Culver High every Sunday for an hour at 4 p.m. with professional triathlete Kirsten Bell, New York Marathon champion Rod Dixon, Culver City Running Club leaders, guest instructors and a massage therapist to train for the Academy Awards Sunday event, Feb. 26, 9 a.m, sponsored by the City of Culver City.

The children are participating in Dixon’s free Kid’s Marathon program where “finishing is winning and winning is finishing.”
