Joy brings ideas to life

Have you ever had an idea that was so good you knew it had to work? Then, when it came time to take the stage, sing the song, or present the PowerPoint, everything fell flat?

Even the greatest ideas can fail if they are not executed with joy. When we bring joy to our endeavors, it makes it easier for people to see our vision, and join in the fun.

I was working with a teacher who was clearly inspired by teaching. Every lesson plan was full of interesting activities and the students could not help but follow along. They were genuinely inspired by the lessons. In contrast, I worked with another teacher who treated the job as a burden. Whenever I entered the room it felt as though a majority of the energy was being invested in controlling the students’ behavior because there was no genuine interest and enthusiasm being generated. The difference between the two classrooms was a great lesson for me.

It is not always easy to invest ourselves joyfully in what we are doing. We may wonder if it is worth our time to put our whole selves into the things we do. The thing to remember is that regardless of what anyone thinks, we always benefit when we give an inspired effort. On top of that, the people that matter most will recognize and appreciate our willingness to bring out our best. Often times, we do not realize the ripple effect created by our attitude.

I know a student who is gifted with the ability to understand people. He is great at empathizing with others. He provides the type of insight that leaves others feeling better about life. Unfortunately, in the past, this student often looked as if he was burdened by people. He wore the expression of someone who did not want to interact with others. Over time, we worked together to find ways that he could show up in a more enthusiastic way. As he dropped his guard, he started receiving appreciation for his gifts and felt like he was finally being seen for who he really is. He discovered that when he enjoys sharing his gifts, it makes it easier for others to celebrate them.

If things are not working out as well as you would like them to, check in with the energy you are bringing to the table. There could be an opportunity to step out boldly and share your genuine enthusiasm with others. As you open up and unleash your joy, others will let their guards down also. You will realize that you do not have to pretend to be perfect because you already are perfect.

By sharing your joy, you give others permission to do the same. The world begins to take on a brighter tone and people you meet become fast friends. This inspired approach leads to a groundswell of new energy. It is guaranteed to improve your results while giving everyone something to cheer about.
