Homeless outreach to feed needy Saturday in Venice, Santa Monica

Responding to Los Angeles’ growing crisis, a squad of 50 volunteers will travel on foot through two coastal communities, delivering meals and support to those in need between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 25 at the Santa Monica Corps Center, 1533 4th St., Santa Monica.

The groups involved in this homeless outreach project in Venice Beach and Santa Monica are CLARE Foundation alumni, Christian dance group Sodium Dance; Morgan Stanley employee, and the Salvation Army staff.

About once a month, the Salvation Army’s Santa Monica Corps pack bagged lunches to distribute to the homeless of Santa Monica and Venice beach.

According to the 2016 Point-in-Time (PIT) Count, Los Angeles District 11 (which includes Venice Beach) has a homeless population of 2,529. Santa Monica, which did its own count, observed 728 homeless individuals in that city alone. To provide comfort to those facing a lack of shelter and resources as the hot summer months burn on, the Salvation Army will lead the effort to bring sustenance, comfort and a warm smile to anyone who’s struggling without a roof overhead.
