Green goes green: High school student makes news with old news Scott Bridges | Thu, Oct 28 2010 12:03 PM

By Scott Bridges

Culver City high school student Stephanie Green is making headlines - into a homecoming dress. She made the dress by attaching pages of newspaper together with packing tape. She came up with the idea because she couldn’t find the time to go shopping. She’s also trying to save my money. The tickets to the Nov. 6 homecoming dance cost 33$ per person - a price she described as “slightly outrageous for a dance being held for a few hours in our school gym.”  So, she came up with a cost-efficient way to attend: A newspaper dress.

Thus far, Green has used the recycled paper of the Culver City News and a variety of others. The dress is more than a fashion statement, it’s a responsible environmental statement about recycling as well.

Upon finishing this dress, Green says she would like to design and make other dresses. She adds that she wants to promote newspaper, instead of cloth, as a new clothing material. She also wants to incorporate newspaper as a trend in the fashion industry.
