Girl Scouts recruiting | Fri, Sep 17 2010 02:15 PM

Culver City Neighborhood Girl Scouts (CCNGS) is inviting all families with daughters interested in joining Girl Scouts to Recruitment Day Sunday at the Farragut Elementary School cafetorium from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Volunteers from CCNGS, the Culver City service unit of Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles, will discuss the 99-year-old Girl Scout movement, register new scouts and help families find spots in local troops or form new troops. Light refreshments will be served and older Girl Scouts will provide activities for younger girls who attend Recruitment Day. Farragut Elementary is at 108230 Farragut Drive. Parking is available on the street and in a lot west of the school.

The CCNGS is composed of 200 girls and welcomes new girls ages five to 17 (kindergarten to 12th grade) who live in Culver City and surrounding communities. In the 2010-2011 school year, Culver City troops will participate in day and overnight camping trips, a World Friendship Day festival and food tasting, holiday caroling, museum sleepovers and a hat drive for people living with cancer and other activities. Individual scouts and troops can also participate in events, workshops, camps and projects around greater Los Angeles. Troops of all age levels also work on skill- and knowledge-building badges and awards, and perform community service throughout the year.

Girls who wish can also join Girl Scouts independently as Juliettes (scouts not affiliated with a troop). For information on other ways to join, call L.J. Kessner at (310) 425 6867 or lj@kessnerfamily.org.
