Electronic waste disposal coming to church July 24 Leslie Belfor | Thu, Jul 08 2010 12:36 PM

The next scheduled quarterly Electronic Waste Roundup will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 24 at the Culver Palms United Methodist Church, 4464 Sepulveda Blvd., Culver City.

Similar to the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) events held by the Los Angeles County, the Culver City Roundup is an opportunity for residents to drop-off their end-of-life or obsolete electronic waste free of charge.

Waste roundup helpers will assist residents by removing electronic waste items from their vehicle.

The following is a list of some items accepted at this roundup: Monitors, TVs, VCRs, computers, printers, scanners, stereos, cell phones, hard drives and fax machines.

Televisions and computer monitors are considered hazardous waste when they have lived their useful life and are ready for recycling or disposal, including cathode ray tube (CRT), liquid crystal diode (LCD), and plasma monitors.

Public Works Environmental Programs and Operations Division, California Recycles, Inc. and Culver Palms United Methodist Church have joined together to manage the safe removal of Culver City electronic equipment.

No hazardous waste will be accepted other than electronic waste.

This free program provides a resource for residents and businesses to dispose of electronic waste quarterly.

California Recycles is registered and licensed by the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) and Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) as an Approved Collector of Electronic Waste pursuant to the Electronic Waste Recycling Act of 2003.
