This year, Culver City’s Echo Horizon School has renewed its status as an Apple Distinguished School for the 2012-2013 school year.
EHS has implemented cutting-edge Apple technology to nurture literacy, critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration. This is the third year that the school has received this distinction.
“We are truly honored to be recognized with this distinction for a third year,” said Head of School Paula Dashiell.
“The work that our Director of Technology Elaine Wrenn and our entire faculty has done, using technology to facilitate a dynamic personalized learning experience, will prepare students for success in the 21st century.”
The Apple Distinguished School designation is reserved for schools that integrate Apple technology in education and meet criteria for the five best practices: visionary leadership, innovative learning and teaching, ongoing professional learning, compelling evidence of success, and a flexible learning environment.
Project Based Learning, Challenge Based Learning, and the Flipped Classroom model enable a personalized approach to learning at Echo Horizon.
The teachers and staff pride themselves on providing students the opportunity to gain important content knowledge and 21st century skills.
EHS serves as a resource to educators, hosting local, national, and international visitors each year.
“Technology is woven throughout the environment at Echo Horizon School to support innovative approaches to teaching and learning,” said Wrenn.
Established in Culver City in l983, Echo Horizon School is an independent Pre-K to sixth grade school.
“Primary students develop literacy and numeracy skills by authoring interactive stories using iPad, while upper grade students also use MacBook to create videos, music, animations, and presentations that communicate their learning,” said Wrenn.
The school’s Echo Center educates children in a collaborative environment that is academically challenging and developmentally appropriate.
“We actively promote mutual respect, individual responsibility and ethical action,” said Dashiell.
“ The Echo Horizon graduate is an inquisitive and critical thinker who brings creativity, kindness and self-reliance to the lifelong journey of learning.”
