Drive sober or get pulled over Scott Bridges | Thu, Aug 25 2011 01:54 PM

The Los Angeles Police Department is one of 100 countywide police agencies currently cracking down on drunken driving. The department intends to ramp up patrols and set up sobriety checkpoints across the city during the next two weeks as part of the end-of summer/Labor Day “Avoid the 100” campaign.

The LAPD’s checkpoints will continue through Sept. 4 as part of a national campaign called “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.”

“Our message is simple and unwavering: If we find you driving impaired, we will arrest you. No exceptions,” said Lt. Ron Katona of the department’s Traffic Coordination Section.

The LAPD will have run at least 15 DUI/license checkpoint stops across the city during the 18-day campaign, Katona said.
The next three checkpoints will be staffed from 8 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday at:

·         Figueroa and Ninth streets in LAPD’s Central area

·         Manchester Avenue and Broadway in the Southeast area

·         Sunset Boulevard and Hoover Street in Northeast area
