Dahab pleads no contest to 2011 crash

Dahab pleaded no contest to the felony DUI’s in a Los Angeles court April 2, according to BikingInLA, a website devoted to safe biking in Los Angeles.

She will surrender to a state prison  April 22.

“Christine Dahab entered a plea of no contest to all counts. She has pleaded “open to the court,” meaning she didn’t bargain for a lesser sentence but rather will ask for leniency from the judge directly based on a diagnostic evaluation to be completed by the Department of Corrections while she is in custody,” said DJ Wheels, a contributor to BikngInLA.

In the early morning hours of June 19, 2011 a large group of cyclists were waiting in the parking lane at the intersection of Jefferson and Hetzler near the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook when Christine Dahab allegedly drove into the group at 40 miles per hour.

Dahab was arrested and charged with two felony DUI counts. Thirteen bicyclists were injured in the crash.

In the following months Dahab’s court dates were postponed on numerous occassions.

The case was originally investigated by traffic investigators from the Culver City Police Department and was then submitted to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office.

Dahab will remain in custody for a 90-day evaluation period and a report will be prepared by the DOC and sent to the judge in Dept. D with its recommendations for sentencing.

Victims will be notified of the actual sentencing date so that they may give their victim impact statements in court.
