A list of walk-friendly cities was released this week and Culver City was named number
20 in the country.
The ratings were compiled by Seattle-based Walk Score, and ranked 2,500 cities and on a scale of 0-100, with cities in the 90-100 range deemed a “Walkers’ Paradise.”
“With rising gas prices, Americans are looking for alternatives to long commutes and driving around town to complete their errands,” according to Walk Score CEO Josh Herst. “America’s most walkable cities and neighborhoods make it easy for residents to leave their cars at home more often. The latest real estate trends show that homes and apartments in walkable areas are in higher demand and are worth more than their less-walkable counterparts.”
The most walkable cities in the country were both in New Jersey – Hoboken and Union City – tied with a top score of 92.2. West Hollywood, ranked fourth nationally and number one in the state with a ranking of 89.4, a score indicating that residents are generally able to carry out most daily errands on foot. Santa Monica placed 12th nationally, with a score of 81.9, while Culver City scored a 79.
