Authorities today were investigating a 20-year-old Culver City man who apparently shot himself to death behind the wheel of an SUV, which sent the vehicle crashing into the back of a truck in West Los Angeles.

The shooting and ensuing crash of the man’s Nissan Xterra occurred shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday near Wilshire and Sepulveda boulevards, said Los Angeles Fire Capt. Rick McClure. No one else was injured.

Anthony Camacho died at the crash site, said Assistant Chief Ed Winter of the coroner’s office. The case was being investigated as a suicide, he said.

Los Angeles police and California Highway Patrol officers were investigating the shooting, said an officer at the LAPD’s West L.A. Station, adding that the man’s head wound was self-inflicted.
