Culver City man kills couple in New Year’s Eve DUI | Thu, Jan 06 2011 02:23 PM

By Scott Bridges

A 27-year-old drunken driver faces two counts of murder after he allegedly ran a red light during a police chase and collided with a married couple who were driving home from a New Year’s Eve party.

Police said they saw a westbound white Geo Prism run a red light on Florence Avenue at Van Ness Avenue in Hyde Park and started chasing it. The driver of the car, Jorge Alberto Molina of Culver City, kept driving.

“The driver sped through the intersection of Florence Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard without attempting to stop for a red light,'' Los Angeles police Sgt. Mitzi Grasso said. Molina
“collided with a black Infiniti sport utility vehicle which had been southbound on Crenshaw Boulevard,” he said, adding that the impact caused the SUV to roll over and hit a pole.

Molina then ran a short distance and collapsed. He suffered minor injuries, according to police.

The couple in the SUV, Kelvin Dorsey, 54, and Demetria Dorsey, 50, both of Los Angeles, died as a result of their injuries. Demetria Dorsey, who had been driving, was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her husband died at the scene.

Molina was booked at the 77th Street Jail Section on two counts of murder and was held in lieu of $1 million bail. He faces 30 years to life in prison if convicted.
