Culver City’s oldest living son died in home of natural causes on Oct. 8. “Culver City Joe” Lescoulie was 98.
Considered by many to be a local sports legend, Lescoulie was also a successful businessman, community leader and member of the Culver City Rotary Club for more than 50 years.
Lescoulie was born on Washington Boulevard to French immigrants, Jean and Madeleine, in 1912, years before Culver City was incorporated and prior to the arrival of the studios. His parents came to the area in the early years of the last century and developed their ranch into one of the city’s first automotive centers during the Great Depression.
Lescoulie and his wife, Janet, were active in the community for many years and were once named YMCA Man and Woman of the Year. They were married for 66 years. Joe supported the USC Trojans for more than eight decades.
He is survived by his son Joe, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Donna; grandsons Jonathan, Justin and James; and relatives Jeanne and Jim Hughes; Jim C. Hughes; Julie Dick; Ora Marsh; George and Kyra Marsh; Susan Marsh; Linda Cool and Janet Franks.
