Comics That Care headline a show for Veterans in Los Angeles

On Thursday June 12 beginning at 7 p.m., Comics That Care and Pin-Ups for Vets will collaborate to create an evening of comedy and variety for veterans, in their time of need, at Volunteers of America’s VS 90 program.  The evening’s activities will take place at 1765 S. La Cienega Blvd. in Los Angeles.

Five comics and seven pin-ups will take the stage to entertain, encourage and celebrate our veterans. The heroes will be treated to a pizza dinner and some much needed comic relief. All the scheduled comics are veterans themselves. The line-up includes Justin Wood, P.J. Walsh, Thom Tran, Shawn Halpin and Mark Valley.

Pin-Ups for Vets, founded by Gina Elise the granddaughter of WWII Army Veteran, runs the nonprofit organization which creates WWII-style pin-up calendars that raise money to purchase state-of-the-art rehabilitation equipment for VA and Military hospitals nationwide.

The Comics That Care motto is “Bringing laughter to those who brought us our freedom, in their time of need.”

Also collaborating with the event is Volunteers of America Los Angeles, the local affiliate of a national nonprofit human services organization committed to serving people in need, strengthening families, and building communities. VOALA works with Veterans from the Vietnam War, Dessert Shield/Storm and the Iraq and Afghanistan era.  Established in 1896, Volunteers of America Los Angeles (VOALA) serve more than 30,000 people who face a myriad of social problems including homelessness, poverty, lack of education, unemployment, and issues facing military veterans and their families.
