Collecting goods while entertaining music fans

CCN

In Culver City Schools, more that 45 percent of CCUSD students receive free or reduced price lunches at their school every day, but in some circumstances, healthy, reliable meals on weekends are not a guarantee. The CCUSD “Backpacks for Kids Program” is designed to provide food to CCUSD students who may not have access to healthy food during the weekend.

It is asked that anyone who attends the April 26 Culver City Symphony Orchestra concert, which will feature violinists and winners of the Parness Concerto Competition Aileen Chung and Yu Chao Weng, please bring in a couple of the items listed below for CCUSD students. Items can be left in a box in the lobby. Orchestra members will be donating, and ask our audience to also support this need.

Items needed include: pasta, ramen noodles, mac and cheese, canned spaghetti sauce, canned fruits, granola bars, boxes or packets of instant oats or breakfast cereals, peanut butter (plastic jars 16-32 ounces), dried pinto beans, white rice (1 or 2 pound bags), canned corn, green beans or carrots (15 ounce cans), canned chili, beef stew and tuna.

In general we’re looking for family or single serve sizes in unbreakable containers (because it is packed into backpacks and carried home by the children). Also, non-perishable food items please.
